Competitive Strategies was founded in 2010 by Steve Zecola and Craig McBurnett.
Steve Zecola has held leadership positions in the telecommunications, wireless and Internet industries. He has raised over $850 Million in capital for wireless and Internet start-ups, and has closed dozens of deals with telephone companies, cable TV companies, Internet Service Providers and marketing and finance companies.
Zecola worked at MCI Telecommunications for eleven years in various marketing, finance and regulatory positions. He also held several general management responsibilities at MCI including the head of its wireless efforts. He has managed multiple distribution channels including direct sales, direct marketing and third party distribution. For example, in one assignment, he took a Division's revenue run-rate from $325 million per year to $657 million per year over an eighteen month period.
Zecola has founded several entrepreneurial firms including GO Communications and WebPerfect Solutions.
Earlier in his career, Steve worked at the Federal Communications Commission on cable television and common carrier issues. Zecola has also taught classes in Strategic Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship in graduate business school. He holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Virginia.

Craig McBurnett has over 25 years experience in executive management positions, with an emphasis in the telecom industry in the Latin American and Caribbean markets. He has worked in multicultural/multilingual environments for over half of his professional career and has lived abroad on two separate occasions.
Craig worked at MCI Communications from 1983 to 1998 in a number of sales management positions including international joint ventures with Stentor and Avantel. Later Craig focused on “turn-around” opportunities first with Marcatel, S.A. in Mexico and then with Oceanic Digital Jamaica in Jamaica in which he operated as the CEO. During this time, Craig guided these companies through a redefinition of their corporate strategy, financial structuring, fund raising and M&A initiatives.
Craig holds a Masters of International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) in Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
